Docs / Manage your server

Mods & plugins

Search Modrinth, install and remove content, and apply it safely.

How it works

The Mods tab (labelled Plugins on Paper servers) searches Modrinth directly, pre-filtered to projects that run server-side and match your server’s loader and version — so what you can find is what can actually run.

Installing and removing

  1. Search for the project and click Add — this stages it.
  2. Stage as many additions and removals as you like.
  3. Click Save & apply. The server rebuilds with the new list: added projects download automatically (including required dependencies), removed ones are cleaned out.
Applying restarts the server, so players are briefly disconnected. The world is untouched — but removing a mod whose blocks exist in the world can strand those blocks, so take a backup before removing big content mods.

Modpack servers

A server created from a Modrinth or CurseForge pack shows its pack on this tab. The pack pins its own loader, mod list, and Minecraft version — manage the pack’s contents through pack updates rather than piecemeal installs.

Do players need the mods too?

Plugins (Paper): never — players join with a normal client. Mods (Fabric/Forge/NeoForge): server-side-only mods work with vanilla clients, but content mods that add blocks or items must also be installed in each player’s client, usually via the matching modpack.
